What is Mazaar-e-Qutbi Niyaaz?
Mazaar-e-Qutbi Niyaaz is a community-driven initiative, supported by Zahra Hasanaat and inspired by the values of Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS. Niyaaz means to serve food. It provides free meals to those in need, ensuring that no one in our neighborhood faces hunger alone.
When was the Niyaaz program started and how often do you serve meals
The Niyaaz program was started in October 2017. We serve 3 meals at the Zahara Hasanat Social center and only dinners at the nearby slum areas. As of today we served close 850+ meals a day.
What is served on the Niyaaz menu?
Niyaaz serves three nutritious meals daily. Over the course of a week, the breakfast rotation includes chana masala, vada pav, bhajia pav, upma, sabudana preparations and ragda masala. For both lunch and dinner, we offer a wholesome thali-style meal consisting of dal, rice, roti, a seasonal vegetable sabzi and a sweet dish.
How does the Niyaaz kitchen operate on a day-to-day basis?
The Niyaaz kitchen operates as a disciplined, high‑intensity unit. A dedicated team of eight staff members cooks, cleans, packs, distributes and serves meals, working from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with breaks from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each day, they begin preparations for breakfast and lunch at 5:00 a.m., typically producing around 2,000 rotis. Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m., lunch at 12:30 p.m., and dinner at 7:00 p.m. In addition to feeding guests at the Zahra Hasanaat Social Centre, the kitchen also distributes meals to nearby communities located roughly 2–5 kilometres away.
How does the Niyaaz programme impact local communities?
For a family of four that relies on Niyaaz, monthly savings on food can be in the range of ₹6,000–₹8,000, freeing up scarce income for rent, education, healthcare and other essentials. For households where both parents work, receiving a hot, ready meal also removes the daily burden of preparing dinner, and many beneficiaries tell us that leftover dinner is thoughtfully repurposed for breakfast the next morning, further stretching each meal. In several cases, individuals who depend on Niyaaz for their own food have been able to redirect the money they would have spent on meals and send it back to support their families in their hometowns.
Every effort is made in the spirit of service, as inspired by His Holiness Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS.
